I've read several accounts of really atrocious customer support, especially via their web support. No way to try before you buy, and the 10-day return policy, besides being way too short for a mail-order-only retailer, will still cost you money, since return shipping is on you. You may find that if you can hook up with a smaller local shop it could benefit you later on when you need other gear. I would still figure out the dollar value you are looking to spend and find a good local shop too see what they have to offer (anyone but GC).
#CARVIN GUITARS AND AMPS SERIES#
I have not heard there latest BX series but it appears to be a newer version of there Redline series, but from the reviews I have read on other forums it seems like it is a much better sounding product. They just never seem to work or sound anygood.but thats why there is DBX. I was however never a fan of there *Redline* series amplifiers, never could dial in an easy to use tone on one.Īs far as any compression circuit on any Carvin amp, not a fan.

I also ran (2) V410 & (2) V118 cabs at the same time and also never had a single failure. I used a PB900 and a PB15 preamp for well over 15 years without a single problem.ever. But they may have improved on there electronics over the past 15+ years, I know if I was to order a new bass from them I would go with there double humbucker setup.Īs far as bass amps, I was a big fan of there older *PB* series. The only part of the bass I was never happy with was the electronics, they have been changed out three times and soon to be the fourth. I have a Carvin LB-75 bass that I bought new back in the early 90's, the fit, finish and playability are still perfect on it. That is my experience and that is my reality. We sent it in to Carvin and it came back a 15 channel board because on of the input channels wouldn't work. We had a 16 channel Carvin mixer that wasn't too bad, when the right channel wasn't out on it. Getting a decent tone out of it is an excercise in terminal frustration. The compressor is totally unuseable because it makes so damned much noise that you can't have it on and it didn't sound to me like the head could put out even close to it's rated power rating. Run that at minimum impedance and it'll go thermal on you too. And while we're on the subject, let's talk about what a piece of work the R1000 bass head is. We replaced it on sub duty with a Crest V1100 which was louder and had no trouble handling the load. We had a DCM1500 we tried running on the subs but it kept going thermal and shutting down bridged into a 4ohm load.
The woofers in LS series PA cabs bottom out so bad they're barely suitable for even practice. The horns are so squawky and honky you'll have a headache inside of an hour. Their 15" LS series monitors are the worst monitors I have ever heard.

My experiences with Carvin are not opinion, not to me, they are fact. However, I will be ordering a B1500 soon to replace my GK 700RB-II that started failing only a month after the warranty expired. I also own a Sadowsky, Bergantino cabs and a GK stack. My Carvin basses and PA gear has been gigged extensively over the past 3 years and I can honestly say that I have never, ever had a single solitary issue with ANYTHING that has the Carvin name on it.ĭon't get me wrong, Carvin gear isn't all I buy.
#CARVIN GUITARS AND AMPS FULL#
I currently own (5) Carvin basses, the B800 amp, a full Carvin 12 channel PA system complete with dual 15 mains, monitors and subs as well as DCM150 power amp w/PM5 monitors for my recording gear. It's clear you speak of Carvin as if your opinion was fact, which I can assure BrBass it is not.merely another subjective opinion. My advice to go to Talkbass was more for the OP than you. Carvin makes consumer grade goods that do not stand up to the big boys in direct comparrison. They've been fudging their specs for so long you can't trust anything they print and if anything breaks down I hope you live close to California because that's where it has to go for repair. I've used Carvin bass amps, cabs, PA speakers, monitors and amps and every piece of Carvin gear I've ever used has been a disappointment. I don't need to go over to Talkbass to get my opinion.
